It’s Desert Season in San Diego

San Diego is located in one of the most unique locations due in part to its proximity to the ocean, mountains, deserts, and the International border. With the Summer season winding down, people are starting to look to the east for adventure. The deserts of the Imperial Valley, located about 90 minutes to the east of San Diego, offer a variety of areas devoted to off-roading and ATV riding. The rolling sand dunes provide an excellent escape for those looking for a little adventure.

Things to Do – The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl

Qualcomm Stadium plays host to the Poinsettia Bowl in late December where a Mountain West Conference team will play an at-large opponent. The at-large opponent may be the Army Black Knights as bowl officials reached an accord guaranteeing the Black Knights an appearance at the bowl if they’re bowl game eligible.

Pennant Fever – Padres Baseball

The San Diego Padres are playing for their second consecutive postseason berth and the excitement is building. Petco Park is a great venue to watch a major league baseball game and with the Padres playing great baseball, every game counts and fan support is paramount.

The Padres are trying to win the National League West pennant for the second straight year and sit only a half game behind the front-running Los Angeles Dodgers. Currently, the Padres are leading the Wild Card chase with a 2.5 game lead over their closest pursuer. Of course, by the time you read this post, the Padres might already be in first place or have won the division.

For those of you looking for a little adventure, be sure to visit the Torrey Pines Glider Port located in La Jolla, CA. The port, which is perched above the Pacific Ocean, offers ample opportunities for thrillseekers to paraglide or hang glide along the cliffs adjacent to the Pacific. The ocean breezes provide the lift allowing the gliders to remain in the air for extended periods of time.

The Torrey Pines Glider Port is the largest paragliding training facility in the U.S. and is recognized for providing

first class service in flight education, flight training, quality equipment sales, and some of the most consistent soaring conditions in California. Torrey Pines Gliderport is recognized as a world class soaring site and has been in continuous use for flight operations, since 1928.

Things to Do – Go to a San Diego Chargers Football Game at Qualcomm Stadium

The NFL season is just around the corner and with it comes new expectations and excitement. The San Diego Chargers are one of three NFL teams in the state of California, and are the team of Southern California and Northern Baja. The early indications are the Chargers are going to again have one of the top-rated defenses in the league and have the offensive tools to score a lot of points. With the return of Antonio Gates, LaDainian Tomlinson, Keenan McCardell, and the promotion of Philip Rivers to starting quarterback, this team is going to be exciting to watch. You definitely don’t want to miss all the exciting action.
